Headshot of pinup model Tabby Kat

Well Tabby, how’s everything going?

Life is good, can't complain.

Since you’re being featured as our pin up of the month, why don’t you tell everyone a little bit about yourself?

So my real name is Tabitha, better known as "Tabby Kat".  I'm a 26 year old small town girl from Northern California.  I am currently working as a manager for a major financial company, which is both rewarding and stressful at the same time!  However, my dream is to be able to further my modeling career because it is truly what I love doing!  (What girl doesn't love playing dress-up?) I have been drawn to the glamorous beauties of old Hollywood and the classic pinups of the 40's and 50's ever since I can remember!  I am basically obsessed with that era and everything vintage.  I collect and study all kinds of pinup art, Elvgren being my favorite.  For a long time it was just something I fantasized about, but finally started dabbling in some pinup modeling myself!  Studying other amazing models of today such as Bernie Dexter has really helped me along the way, especially since I would consider myself an "aspiring pinup model".  Modeling has become something I love and absolutely can't live without!

Who have you worked with?

Well, I have really only been modeling for about a year and a half or so... and in the beginning my focus was building up my portfolio so I could market myself.  I have been fortunate enough to have worked with some amazing photographers and stylists, Glenn McDowell, Mitzi & Co, Gary Roberts, MUA Rebecca Schillinger... just to name a few people that were really rad.  As far as some of the companies I work with and promote: Kitten Koffin Zombies, Konformity Clothing, Torture Couture, Domination Clothing, Candy Apple Jewelry, and some other stuff still in the works!

What inspired you to be a pin up model?

I live and breathe it.  When I'm not shooting, I'm dreaming up ideas for my next shoot.  I put a lot into my modeling, it's not just a hobby to me, I want to create images everyone will talk about.  Like I mentioned before, I am inspired by the pinups of the past.  I appreciate that back then sexy still meant classy... and left a little to the imagination.

Coming from a small town in northern California, how has that helped you, or has it hurt you?

I definitely appreciate where I'm from.  I crack jokes about this cow town all the time, but it's who I am and what I've grown to love.  Don't get me wrong... the thought of moving, especially to So Cal has crossed my mind more than a few times.  Of course being from a small town has its drawbacks, and the pinup/rockabilly culture that has seemed to catch on down south is almost non-existent in Northern California.  This location can be challenging sometimes as a pinup model due to the fact that a lot of the major photographers that shoot pinup are based down south.  I have been really lucky to have clicked with a great photographer locally, Gary Roberts of garyrobertsstudio.com which has worked out wonderfully!

You have been featured as a Kitten Koffin Zombie winner, how has that helped your career?

Kitten Koffin Zombies has been a tremendous help to my career.  Talk about some fierce competition!  The contest I was in went down to the wire, battling it out with 5 other gorgeous girls!  I feel really honored to have pulled it out, and to be able to be featured in the KKZ '08 Calendar as the November winner (which if you haven't yet, get one!) Frenchy at KKZ has been such a sweetheart and I have told her several times I feel like the contest really helped launch my career.  She works so hard with these contests and you can tell she genuinely puts her heart and soul into running them.  I know for me personally this contest helped me with some much needed exposure and I think it gave me the confidence to pursue pinup modeling more seriously.  I appreciate everything KKZ has done for me, and after talking with a few of the other girls I know they would say the same.

You have worked with a photographer that we actually have worked with before (Gary Roberts), how was that?

Plain and simple Gary rocks.  I found Gary through a mutual friend about a year ago and was completely impressed with his work.  My first shoot with Gary was actually the set I used to win the KKZ contest, and then of course we shot again for the calendar.  He is such an awesome guy, very easy to work with, makes you feel completely comfortable, willing to try any of my crazy ideas... and of course creates awesome pictures!  Now Gary Roberts is my go-to guy!

Now is modeling something you do full time? And if it’s not, what do you wish to accomplish by doing pin up modeling?

Right now modeling is not something I do full time for a couple of reasons. Financially, it's hard because a lot of work I do is trade work with other companies.  I am finally getting a better understanding of how this industry works and how much time it involves.  I would love to be able to go full time with my modeling but I don't see that happening quite yet.  As a pinup model you also have to be very dedicated and actively looking for companies that appreciate that same style.  It's a competitive scene.  There are several amazing established models already out there, and right now I am still trying to prove myself. I 'm getting there though.
I know some girls who do modeling also do burlesque, ever given that some consideration?

I seriously admire the girls that do burlesque.  I don't know if that type of performing is for me.  I'd need some major pointers, but who knows you might see me on stage one day.

I know I have asked you who you have worked with before, but are there any companies that you are a spokeswoman for? Or a company you represent?

I can't say that I am necessarily a spokeswoman for any particular company.  However, I sincerely appreciate all the companies I work with and want to continue building those relationships and am always looking for new opportunities.
