Horror Punk band The Spookshow

Hello! Please let your presence be known?

Hey. Mike Dungeon from the horror punk band The Spookshow.

Where are you guys from?

Sweden.

How would you describe your sound?

Simple Horror punk rock with a touch of the 50’s in it. Melodies to die for…or to.

What inspires your music?

It's me and my brother Knife who writes all the songs and I honestly can't say where we get our inspiration. Most fanzines always assume that we get the inspiration from old horror movies and old murders but that's really not the case. We get inspiration from everything/anything I suppose. When the inspiration hits us you can't stop us. We can easily write three songs in an evening.

Talk to us about your albums.

"Psychosexual Chapter 1" and "Psychosexual Chapter 2" are the two first chapters in the Psychosexual trilogy. The third and last chapter will be released in May 2008 worldwide. All three albums will be absolutely awesome and all the song on each album could easily be a single. The material on each album has been written during seven years.

Was it fun recording them?

Both albums took totally about 15 hours each to record, mix and master. We record everything live so we are darn fast in the studio. It's fun to record…yes. But it's fun because of the short time we spend in the studio.

Tell us about Psychosexual Chapter 1, 2 and soon to come Chapter 3. Where did the idea come from?

I started write material 2000 and sometime after that I had it clear that it would be a trilogy. I really can't say why, but I suppose we think it's something horror-ish about a trilogy.

Would you say you're writing a horror novel with your music?

I would say that…yes.

You have some pretty sweet album covers who is the artist?

A Swedish tattoo artist named Kinky Pimp. He's just great. Check out his Rockabilly band: www.smalltownpimps.com.

You have a bad ass website who came up with the layout?

I have made all the lay out and all html shit was made by my father.

Have you guys toured much?

No. We will start touring Europe for real next summer after the release of Chapter 3 and if everything goes as planned you will be able to see us on the west coast in USA summer 2009.

Talk to us about the U.S. tour plans?

I really can't say anything right now. It's too early but I hope you will be able to see us tour together with another big horror punk band. The agency have started sketch on the tour so nothing is done at all.

What is the goal for The Spookshow?

We will keep releasing one album each year. So far we got 130 demo songs recorded and we are constantly writing new material so we got A LOT of material just waiting to be recorded. The obvious goal is to be the biggest horror punk band in the world. Seriously. That will take a lot of albums and a lot of touring but time is all we got. (Laughs)

What about the Horror punk scene do you enjoy the most?

Hmm…Bands that really get the whole thing. It's common that bands try to be more than they really are and are writing parts of songs just to in some way show that "We're not just a simple three chord band…listen to this solo!" and out comes the shittiest solo the world has ever heard. Another problem is that many of the smaller horror punk bands got so shitty production on the records that you hardly can hear the music or the vocals. The absolute best bands are simple. The simpler, the better. You don't have to be embarrassed by the fact that you use three chords in all songs. Fuck all the emo shit and unnecessary bridges and shit.

What is your favorite Horror movie?

I can't answer that…really.
