Dead Boy Productions with Shotgun Royale

What made you decide that you wanted to be in a band?

Really, a combination of reasons: love of music; yearn to become rockstars, but most of all nothing better to do!

Shotgun Royale performing live.

When you first started out, did you guys think you would be touring?

There was always a lingering hope of being able to get our music out on the road, but the realization of it didn't seem like a possibility until our first California tour actually happened. After that we couldn't wait to get back on the road.

Who writes all the lyrics?

Logan (singer/guitarist) has written a majority of the lyrics, but the rest of the band, Fernando (drums) specifically, has worked on the lyrics for other songs.

When you’re touring where do you look forward to playing the most?

After two tours, we've gained an appreciation for the influence the band has on how good a show is. We really have to work hard to make a show good. But, even if there is a small crowd the show can be great. As long as the band has a good attitude, any show can be memorable and epic. Really, we just look forward to playing any show!

Who is the biggest influence on your style of music?

Individually, the influences range from The Ramones to The Blood Brothers to They Might Be Giants to The Doors and beyond. As a band, we're all fans of ska especially Skavoovie & The Epitones, Big D & The Kids Table, Streetlight Manifesto, The Flaming Tsunamis and really anything with upbeats! Our style is constantly being challenged by our influences but it's our vast range of taste that defines our music.

How did you come up with Rockabilly/Ska?

t was a combination of interests, a couple of us wanted to start an oldies style band and all of us wanted to start a ska band after seeing the Ska Is Dead tour of 2005. The result was some combination thereof.

How long has Shotgun Royale been rippin’ up the music scene?

Two years strong! We’ve toured California twice and made two full-length CDs... I guess things just come in two's.

Do you have any current projects?

Once this tour is over, we're planning to take it pretty slow. But, as of now, we're considering doing another Cali mini-tour possibly in the winter of '07.

Do you have any advice to young musicians out there?

Keep it real, yo!
