Dead Boy Productions with Rezurex

If you are from Southern California and are into horror punk or psychobilly then the chances should be pretty good that you have seen the Rezurex.  They combine the best of 50’s style music with psychobilly to form their own brand of horror that that is very catchy.  Lead singer and guitarist Daniel deLeon took some time after a Rezurex tour to answer some questions for us at Dead Boy.

You used to be known as Lobo Negro, but had to change the name of the band to the Rezurex, so all that told how long has the band been around?

We've been around since the beginning of 2002 officially. Our first name, "Lobo Negro", had to be changed, cause some other band owned the name first. They copyrighted, so we figured we should just change it before our first C.D. was released.

A lot of the members have other bands that they play in so how does this affect the Rezurex?

It does affect us a little, but I get "fill-in" members to play when the others cant. When we tour Europe, most people don’t know the difference. I only choose good musicians, so we rock no matter what.

You made a video for the song "Devil Woman from Outer Space". Did this come out before the album?

Yes, this was made in Jan/2004. It's funny cause I had my hair like Elvis (my version, ha ha). Originally it was just a promo video with our demo version on the audio track. When "Beyond The Grave" was released, I had the director put our newly recorded version with the old video. Sometimes I get people asking me, "Hey where can I get that movie?”.  It was filmed on super 8 film, so it looks real old looking.

When did the album "Beyond the Grave" come out?  Did you have an EP before it came out?  I had always heard it existed but have never seen one?

Yes, our first EP was called the same, but only had the first 6 tracks on it. Later, we added the other 5 and our music video. Good luck finding one, it's a different cover artwork, which I drew myself.

How did you hook up with Fiendforce Records?

I met Thorsten, the head of Fiendforce a year before we signed with them when i was on tour in europe with my old band, The Deep Eynde. When Rezurex did their first tour there, I invited him to the show, and the rest is history.

You have played with a lot of psychobilly bands, but also your fair share of horrorpunk bands.  Do you prefer either or is there a certain type of show that you like to play?

I love all kinds of music, but I prefer to play psychobilly right now. I just can’t get enough of the upright bass. I have also enjoyed playing with the punk bands I’ve been in. Who knows, I might do a side project when I find the time.

What other bands have you played in and who else do you play with now?

My other bands were, The Insaints, The Deep Eynde, Calavera, and 45 Grave. Right now I am recording with The Deep Eynde, but I do not play with them officially.

How far have you toured as the Rezurex?  Where have you gone on tour?

Wow, this last year 2006, we visited Germany, Finland, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Hungry, Spain, and Japan. Next year we plan on repeating it and also visiting Australia and New Zealand and the long awaited US tour.

You've played all kinds of clubs all over Southern California. What are some of your favorite places to play?

The clubs in So Cal, most of them are worth mentioning like, Showcase Theatre, Key club and Knitting Factory.

Anything else to say?
