Chop Tops, Graveside Rockers, and Shaun Karma and The Kings of the Wild Frontier

Caity Did

Ok, so first off I must say I was very excited to go to this show, for the soul fact it was taking place at the Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco. I love the look of the place! I admittedly hadn't seen or heard any of the bands until that night so I wasn't quite sure what I was going to experience. I sadly, missed the first band that went on. Due to me getting off work at 5:30, I drove 2 hours into the city getting there an hour after they started.

So for me, the first band that went on was Kings of the Wild Frontier. I didn't really pay attention to the first song; my first thoughts were they were very poppy. Then I thought maybe the lead singer sounded like Danzig from the Misfits, however, after further listening it came to me—SOCIAL DISTORTION!! Yet again. I suppose they had a nice injection of a bluesy sound to them making them a little different from a cover band. Sadly, from what my friends told me, I missed out on the lead singer's attempts at shaking his hips like Elvis Presley. Don't fret friends; from the balcony I could still see his sexy unbuttoned shirt! If I had to pick I think “Frostbite heart” was the best song they played.

So next up, The Graveside rockers. A friend there insisted they were amazing! So of course they had my full attention. They personally weren't my style… I did like a few songs, “Fallen angel” and “Whiskey Rebel”. They are very on the punk side with a psycho injection I liked it a lot. They had great guitar solos too!! And the crowd defiantly seemed to enjoy it quite a bit!

Alright, enough of the blah, blah, blah, get off your asses and buy a damn Chop Tops CD, set up a little shrine, do whatever because honestly I was blown away. The whole night I was tired, I didn't want to be there I wanted sleep, (Long day at work)! They had so much energy it totally woke me up! I feel this band out of beautiful Santa Cruz is going to take the world by storm. They are all amazing musicians, and apparently playing the drums standing up and singing lead vocals is very hard (so said the friend that accompanied me). The guitar solos by the ever so nice Shelby were simply amazing. And whichever song there was that bass solo in was equally mind blowing. Some of my favorite songs played that night were, Bitch. A defiant must listen!! Be extra sure to listen to the lyrics they are fucking hilarious And El Diablo. I especially loved the Heathers Crack in-between songs, sadly only maybe 2 others chuckled at it. Last but not least, their encore song, a cover of the stray cats gonna rock this town. I couldn't believe how great it was, I swear it was as good or better than the stray cats playing it themselves! I give the show an 8 and the chop tops an 11!! Because they own you!
