Phat Cat Swinger - Phat Cat Swinger
Review by Pavel

Phat Cat Swinger's self titled album.

These guys are from the Apple Valley, California, and they are the coolest hepcats in town. The genre, Phat Cat Swinger are into, was forgotten since the 30's, but regained popularity with bands like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Cherry Poppin' Daddies to name a few. With this self-titled album, they offer 12 great songs for your audio pleasure. Full of decadent rhythms, sexy female vocals here and there, a wild horn section, the music of this band is hard to describe with simple words. You have to hear it, feel it, and let yourself go with the flow and dance. There are some fast songs that will make any dance floor explode, jazzy ballads, even a cover of "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'". What else could you possibly want?

I will not fall in a long and boring description of every song; you'll hear them for yourself anyway. These nine musicians don't reinvent the wheel, but their music is still very sincere and one of the most original around. Because nowadays, and that is only my opinion, it is more original and innovating to play some old, forgotten genre, and stay apart from the hype, than playing the same tunes and the same notes as everybody else. If you are bored from all the distorted guitars, the roars of the singer or the heavy breakdowns, and you just want to jump and jive all night long, Phat Cat Swinger might be just for you. So put those two-tone shoes, order a martini and start practicing those dance moves!
