Dead Boy Productions with Kristian Sandorff

Kristian Sandorff

Hello my good man. Please introduce yourself.

Hello. I´m Kristian. I play the drums – I also played in Nekromantix for some years.

So what do you do for those who don't know?

At the moment I’m working on some new recordings with some friends here in Denmark.

Tell us about what happened with the Nekromantix? Some just think you vanished into thin air.

Not much, actually. Maybe that was the problem. I guess there were some priority issues. We were all involved with other bands and projects at the time. We had a great time together for a few years while the psychobilly scene was growing worldwide and especially in the states. It was great to be a part of that. The problem - for me, anyway - might have something to do with the limits that surround you when you are in a "niche band" like Nekromatix, where a thing like your hair is a very important thing. I sometimes joke about it and call it my "hair band" time. Don't get me wrong, I also really enjoyed all the fun that came with that for some of the band members - running out of hair spray and broken hair dryers – I do remember a good few "Spinal Tap-ish" episodes…. We did a couple of records and I am really proud of the work we put into them. But after those records it was time to try other musical directions. It also seemed like some of the fun had gone out of it for some of us. But as you know, the band reappeared with a different line up and I don't have any problems with that.

What have you been doing since that time?

I have a job as a text writer. I have also been involved with a few musical projects. In the summer 2005 I joined a new band with some old friends in Copenhagen: Singer who formed the band: Julia Coolia, who back in the nineties was in a band with some of the people who ended up in Horrorpops. Guitar: Casper, GREAT guitar player, former Horrorpops. Bass: Tom Hell from Hell route 16. Guitar: Andy from Los Retardos. The band had a few names: The Low-Down, The Third Eyes and finally Cheetah's Tail. The style was more straightforward punk rock'n roll. We played some good shows in Denmark and Scandinavia, including support for Peter Pan Speed rock (one of my all-time favorites). Last show was at the big garage festival "Gutter Island" in Denmark last summer. After that the band fell apart and we haven't done anything since. I regret the fact that we never recorded anything. Some of the songs were really cool.

Talk about Sandorff Valkonen Sandorff how did it all get started?

I don't really remember how it started. We did a few shows in Finland with bass player Lauri Valkonen in February 2006. One of the best bass players I have ever played with! He has also played with Paul Roman and The Quakes. We played some songs Peter wrote over the last 20 years. It was great fun and we decided to do it again. So now we might do some more work together.

Did you miss playing with Peter?

I love to play. Whenever I'm not playing I miss it. I miss playing in all the bands I was ever in and with most of the people I played with. What I don't miss is all the bullshit that can come with being in a band.

Can't wait to hear some stuff. Can you let us in to what it might sound like?

It sounds like me and Peter having a good time with a great bass player. Peter's guitar playing and sound is still unique and I play the drums the way I like to play them.

Are you planning on recording?

We might do an EP / mini CD with a few tracks soon to see how it works out.

Any tours being planed?

There are talks about some tours, yes.

How long have you been playing drums now?

For about 25 years.

How many bands have you been involved with?

A good few. Most important ones are Schwarzwald Library (1992-??) and Nekromantix (1997-2005).

Favorite flicks?

Does "flicks" mean films? Then, no. I am not a film freak. I only watch a movie once. I don't get a kick out of watching the same stuff again and again to check out lights and special effects and learn all the lines. If it doesn't work out the first time it is just too bad. But "King Kong" (the original) and "The Rutles" are cool movies.

Anything I missed or last words?

Keep on rocking! I will!

Kristian thank you! In my mind you will go down in history for one of the best Psychobilly drummers.

Thank you for the compliment. Nice talking to you.
