Album cover for Life is a Grave by Psychobilly band The Nekromatix featuring Kim Nekroman

It's been awhile where are you hiding these days?

Hmm "awhile since what?" I've been touring nonstop the past 2 1/2 years between my two bands (Nekromantix and Horrorpops). Nekromantix have been finishing new songs, rehearsing and been in the studio for a month now.

How is it in the studio with the new line up?

It’s great. Everybody in the band is very motivated and excited. Nice to have a band with energy and motivation. Both Troy and Andrew are very talented musicians with the right amount of musical curiosity and creativity.

What is this album inspired by?

As always and just like all the prior albums, we are inspired by everyday life. If you ask me I'd say that I am writing songs exactly the same way as I did when we did the first Nekromantix album in 1989. Obviously we/I have matured, but are still approaching songwriting young and heart. Life, death, love etc. all wrapped in horror or a horror inspired universe to make it more entertaining and fictional.

What can we expect from the new album?

Rock'n'Roll Nekro style. A psycho ballad, a psycho country song to more up-tempo, crazy slapping Nekrobilly.

When is touring expected?

The release date for the album which is named "Life is a Grave & I Dig it!" is April 10th and in addition, release shows in San Diego, LA and OC is gonna be announced very soon. The release shows are gonna be followed by a "Hellcat Records" US tour with Nekromantix headlining.

Any favorite bands to tour with or future bands your inviting to tour?

No faves in particular, most bands are awesome to tour with.

The video for "Gargoyles Over Copenhagen" is great, are you planning any more videos for a song on this new album?

I don't know for sure. Videos cost money and it’s not always worth it to spend the money, when videos from a band on our level don't really get airplay other than on the Internet. So we will see. We might do a super low budget one for the fans to enjoy.

You have spent a long time in this business. What have you learned that can maybe help somebody out there trying to make it?

I have learned that it is impossible to predict anything whatsoever. As for any helping advise I think the only way is to just do what you feel is right. Be humble and listen to the ones that have the experience. Be prepared to work your ass off and don’t expect it to be the easy life. Be aware that it’s a 24/7 job that pays less than any average job out there. Don’t think "success" lands in your lap and that somebody "discovers" you out of the
blue. It's takes a lot of work, touring etc. before people pay attention to you, so get out there and play and play and play.... Make original music from the heart and remember in order for others to like your music you must like it yourself.

How close are you with the fans?

I'd say pretty close. Everybody in Nekromantix spends quite some time on the Internet and even though it is impossible we try to reply to as much we can online. We are also very active on the Internet forums and boards. We are not playing the "rock star" thing, but we mingle with our fans.

What has changed since you've first became part of Psychobilly history?

A lot of things have changed. The music itself has evolved and for the most part people dig the very diverse variety psychobilly has to offer musically. I know the psychobilly scene from both an audience point of view as well as from a bands point of view. The  first 10 years I didn't play music myself but was attending shows and festivals all over Europe as a psychobilly fan.

Favorite Alcohol?
These days beer but I also enjoy JD and Jaegermeister

Favorite song to play live?

None in particular, it changes every month or week

How is Hell Cat Records treating you?

Hellcat is treating us great. It's nice to finally be on a label that actually pays us for sold albums. Apart from that important fact is great that they support us in everything we do and most important they don’t interfere in how we make our music.

When do you think is time to call it quits? Will you still be playing at 65?

When its no fun anymore its time to call it quits, but you know what, we are still having a ball. So I say rock'n'roll has no age.

Any Last words for the Lovers and Haters anything I left out?

Nothing much to say to the Haters since I doubt they read this anyways. To the Lovers I cannot emphasize how much we appreciate the support because without them we couldn't do what we do.
