The Creepshow - Sell Your Soul
Review by Pavel

No Turning Back - Holding On album cover.

The Creepshow are one of the finest Canadian psychobilly bands. Do you want to know why? These Toronto, ONT, based ghouls are ravaging stages all over Canada and USA for a long time now. Their debut album “Sell Your Soul” came out in 2006, but is still burning hot, because The Creepshow are about to take over the rest of the world, figuratively speaking. What makes them different from the rest of the psychobilly scene are the captivating voice of the gorgeous Hellcat and the sound of the keyboard, that takes the album’s ambience to another level. Some may compare The Creepshow to the Horrorpops, because of the female vocals, but there’s much more than that. Right from the start, with the macabre intro “The Sermon”, you’ll enter a universe full of zombies and demons, a universe where The Grim Reaper reigns over the tortured souls. I don’t know what my point is, but the important thing is that “Sell Your Soul” has got all the good ingredients of a great psychobilly album: rockabilly melodies, slapping upright bass, punk-rock energy and creepy lyrics. Some standout tracks are the breathtaking “Creatures of The Night”, or “Cherry Hill” and “Candy Kiss” that will make you dance your ass off. “The Garden” has a beautiful melody and on “Doghouse” you can hear Hooch from The Matadors (another Canadian psychobilly act) in a guest appearance, arguing with Hellcat. “Sell Your Soul” is an album, you won’t let go easily. You’ll want to give it another listen again and again. But that’s fine, stuff like that happens when you sell your soul to Rock’n’Roll!
