Coffin Draggers - Dying Breath
Review by Dan-Zig

Coffin Draggers ablum Dying Breath

The Coffin Draggers released their long awaited full length LP Dying Breath last October. We here at DeadBoy have seen the Coffin Draggers a few times and have always been into their sound. The band labels themselves death rockabilly and one listen of this CD and I can see why. It is definitely not your typical psychobilly album, which is a fantastic thing. A lot of the songs lean in a gothic-rockabilly direction.

The fun starts with the CD case itself. It is not an average CD case, but a DVD case. (read more about this in their interview with us). The boys get an A for effort with the packaging. Now to the music. The band takes you on a journey through the cemetery by way of a goth club, without losing their sense of humor. Live and on CD you can hear the sense of humor that the band has both through the things they say between songs onstage and through the tongue in cheek lyrics such as in “Dead Girls Don’t Say No…but you’ve still got to buy them flowers!”

Other songs on this include the rocking Voodoo Doll, Cemetery Girl, Dead Roses and Formaldehyde and my personal favorite Sorry for Your Loss in which vocalist Gator assumes the character of the creepy undertaker trying to sell a grieving family on a fancy funeral for their dearly departed loved one. If you have seen this LA based band you know what to expect. If you haven’t then you can expect to get a CD of goth based rockabilly that is a welcome turn from the standard psychobilly that you are probably used to. These guys definitely put the FUN in funeral.
