Dan Zig

Dead Boy Productions with Buddha Bomb

Riverside Punk band Buddha Bomb performing live.

Where is the band from and when did the band form?

Buddha Bomb started in a local Riverside garage. We pieced together little by little, starting out with roommates and friends and since then has evolved into the best punk band in the Inland Empire according to the I.E. Music Awards.

How would you describe your music?

I suppose our music can only be described as a conglomeration of wailin' horns, rockin' guitars, funky bass lines, and catchy beats all topped off with politcally and emotionally charged female vocals.

So the two Dead Boy Dans grew up watching the same bands that you guys apparently did (the Skeletones and Voodoo Glow Skulls) since we live in Corona and Riverside and it seems like the ska/punk scene got really quiet after ska went big. Is it making a comeback now? It seems that there a more and more ska oriented bands popping up again.

Ska has evolved greatly over the last century, starting out in Jamaica, moving to Britain, and eventually finding its way out here in California but it always comes in waves. The third wave of ska has quieted down in mainstream music, but the underground attraction has never faded. Ska seems to come and go in waves, and we like to think we're just riding the next set.

Where have you played and what bands have you played with?

We've played up and down California, mostly in the I.E. but we like to leave our comfort zone and an upcoming tour is inevitable. Some of the bands we've shared the stage with are Bad Manners, The Toasters, The Voodoo Glow Skulls, Fishbone, The Skeletones, The Debonaires, Satori, Sublime Unauthorized (featuring Q-Ball), Knock-Out, Deals Gone Bad, Monkey, and the Guilty Parties.

What are your thoughts on downloading music?

Our music is free for download. We find that it's best possible way to get music out to those who might not give our CD a listen otherwise.

How effective do you think MySpace is to your band?

Free web space and free advertisement? MySpace is a GODSEND. It's an excellent way to promote shows, sell merchandise, and connect with promoters, venues, and bands. Work is still involved, but MySpace provides a serious stepping stool.

Do you have any releases out? If so, where are fans able to get them?

We have a four song demo currently downloadable on www.myspace.com/bombbuddha

What other local bands should we be checking out?

Some of the best local bands in the area include Knock-Out, the Guilty Parties, Top Shelf, and the b Sharps. More established local bands would be folks like the Voodoo Glow Skulls, The Debonaires, and The Skeletones.

Anything else you would like to add?
