Dead Boy Productions with Blasé Debris

Horror Punk band Blasé Debris shows off their scary side for a photo shoot.

Alright so first tell us exactly how to pronounce the band name.

No doubt we've gotten ourselves in deep with this one. The correct pronunciation is- bla-za da-bre and the correct spelling is Blasé Debris. Part of me was like, "Just come up with a different name, one people spell and pronounce", but I just couldn't get away from it. At lease we didn't have to worry about the name already being taken.

Where is the band from and when did the band form?

We say Albany NY but basically it's referred to in our parts as the Capital District. I live in Rotterdam, Billy in Schenectady, Tony in Colonie and Rachel in Albany. Blasé Debris' first show was with Joe Coffee, The Priests, The Bloody Hollies and Goblet in June of 2003. (and no, I didn't know that off the top of my head. I had to look it up)

How would you describe your music?

We refer to ourselves as a horror punk band. Meaning, our main influence is, was, and probably always will be the Misfits. That's not to say we sound like a Misfits rip off, I'm certain we don't."I" think we've developed a sound all our own. I'm real happy with our direction.

It seems like lately there are a lot of horrorpunk bands coming around. There are a few here in California, but what is it like on the east coast?

There are few here on the east coast and so far ( for all I know) we all support each other. We "wanna" play shows with other horror punk bands. There's plenty of room under the H.P. umbrella for deviation.

So I have seen quite a few features on the band in the recent months. How do you think things are going with the popularity of the band? Are you noticing a difference since you have been feature in things like AMP?

I tell ya what. It "is" awful cool to walk into a music/book store etc., pick up a magazine and see yourself inside it. As far as it making us more popular, I'm sure it doesn't hurt.

Where have you played and what bands have you played with?

We've done a few mid-sized tours taking us from NY down to the border of Mexico and back. Played the SXSW Fest the prior couple years and stay about as busy as possible while maintaining our day jobs. We've played with everyone from the Business and Blitzkid to Gogol Bordello, the Unseen and Wasp. This Year will see us on a handful of Warped Tour dates as well.

What are your thoughts on downloading music?

There's ups and downsides to almost everything. I really haven't given it any thought. I still prefer to own the whole album including all artwork etc. as the artist intended.

How effective do you think MySpace is to your band?

From meeting new fans to other bands, to setting up shows and doing interviews such as this one. Let's face it, it Rocks!

How many releases do you have out? Where are fans able to get them?

We did an EP (demo) titled "Batten the Hatches/Bury the Hatchet" even before we played our first show. To me, it made no sense performing live without giving the crowd at least the opportunity to take a piece of the band home with them. "Creep Cool" was released in March of '06 on the Altercation label and our follow up entitled "Morfiend" comes out this April (2008). In between the two full lengths were a handful of comps that we appeared on as well. One of the comps and both full lengths are (and or will be) available through altercationrecords.com

Anything else you would like to add?

Thanks for expressing interst in the decadence that is Blasé Debris. Check us out at www.myspace.com/blasedebris Til then, stay ghoul, creep cool and cheers!
