Bamboula's CD Guilty Pleasures

California has always spawned a pretty wide range of Psychobilly acts. Bamboula, a trio from Santa Clarita, CA, is one of them. But there are several things that distinguish their debut album "Guilty Pleasures" from the rest of the pack. The name of the band itself, "BAMBOULA", sticks in your mind and won’t let go. It's one of the coolest band names and fits the music perfectly. Right from the opening song "Bamboula Bop", these cats set the record straight. Thumping slap bass, voodoo rhythms, infectious guitar riffs and good written non-cliché lyrics, these are the ingredients in this rockin' cocktail. Standout tracks are the Mad Sin-like “Cannibal”, “Down” and the very fast and aggressive “Hail Mary”. “Thee Infected” wears its name very well, because this instrumental track spreads just like a disease. Another instrumental gem is the jazzy, acoustic, Caribbean style “Intermission”. The trio has paid homage to British Psychobilly legends The Pharaons, with a frantic cover of “Turkey Dance”. If you like catchy rhythms and some spice in your Psychobilly, give Bamboula and their “Guilty Pleasures” a try. You’ll see that it is a guilty pleasure, indeed!
