Greaser Aaron

The opening act for the Rocketz was an unexpected suprise. The Strikers from San Diego successfully mixed metal and psychobilly with plenty of energy and pep. Big Sandy walked in sporting a 1950s style suit, halfway through the set and sat at the bar nodding his head in approval of the Strikers, he seemed to be digging the music. The leader of the Strikers who looks like a metal head with his long hair bopping around as he jumps all over the stage frantically, does actually play psychobilly and successfully. He actually sings more like a greaser, but plays metal mixed with rockabilly. The bass player was straight up billy, slapping away like there was no tomorrow, and the drummer held a rock solid steady beat, overall a great band that I would see again. Their CD "No Return" is also worth picking up as it does capture the energy of thier wild live performances. The second act The Henchmen from Whittier, CA were also amazing. They are led by singer/guitarist Eric Razo. Razo plays straight up psycho rock'n'roll along with bass and drums, this band plays with psychotic manic energy and are simply amazing. They know how to put on a spectacular psychobilly show. Non stop wrecking worthy uptempo pschobilly at its very best. The main event, The Rocketze led by L.A. based rockabilly singer/guitarist Tony Slash, are a mixture of pschobilly and punk with a horror B-movie play list. Sharky is amazing, slapping the bass away like a traditional psychobilly player, he seems very influenced by classic bands such as the Krewmen. The drummer was also great keeping the energy level up. They played everything from Neo rockabilly & psychobilly to straight out horror punk. Exellent performances by all and a full house at the Tropics Lounge, which has the feel of a Texas roadhouse. The perfect setting for all these amazing acts. An overall exellent show by all.
